Traditional Assessments
Students were given chapter tests after each chapter that included multiple choice, fill in the blank, free response, and problems, where students had to show their work and explain their thinking. Also, students were given an end of nine weeks test for the end of the third nine weeks, which covered material covered throughout the nine weeks.

These questions were given at the end of a lab to see how much the students were paying attention to what they did in the lab. In addition, this got the students thinking about we'd be talking about the following day.

A Variation of Synectics
When and how would a boat being rowed upstream be in equilibrium with the current flowing downstream? |
Students are given a situation where they have to use a metaphor to explain how something in the real-world could be related to the concept that we had been covering: equilibrium.

Formative assessments were chosen and implemented. A rubric was created for one of the assessments, and the students' work was analyzed and reflected upon.
